VPN restrictions complicate the work of developers in Russia

文字大小

Restrictions on virtual private networks in Russia have created serious obstacles for software development professionals. The primary tools affected are those critical for international collaboration and open-source projects. These include cloud-integrated development environments, libraries, version control systems, and code repositories.

Causes and consequences of technical disruptions

The situation is exacerbated by the simultaneous impact of two key factors. On one hand, internal traffic filtering measures are active, while on the other, foreign platforms are imposing their own restrictions on Russian users. Alexander Demin, head of administration and DevOps at Softline, confirms that the entire core infrastructure supporting the modern programming cycle is currently at risk.

Due to unstable connections, developers are forced to spend significantly more time on routine processes such as updating, rebuilding, and maintaining software products. Even official concessions from regulatory authorities do not fully resolve the issue. Roskomnadzor has granted exceptions for over 57,000 IP addresses and subnets belonging to 1,700 different organizations, yet network disruptions continue to occur.

Specialists regularly encounter spontaneous connection drops when working with repositories, slow data transfer speeds, and code synchronization failures. Under these conditions, a stable connection becomes the top priority for uninterrupted operations. With the HiroVPN service, users are protected from such infrastructure problems and access difficulties.
