AI coding assistant Cursor restricts access for users in Russia

Text size

The popular code editor with built-in artificial intelligence, Cursor, has stopped functioning in the Russian Federation. When attempting to send a request from Russian IP addresses, users encounter system errors, whereas the service continues to operate normally when using foreign network settings.

This tool remained one of the last widely used AI assistants for developers that could be accessed directly within the country. The likely reason for the restrictions is an update to the terms of service, which specifies a ban on providing services in regions under US sanctions.

With the HiroVPN service, users are protected from such access issues with international technology products.
